MGX, Abu Dhabi’s leading AI and advanced technology investment company, has joined forces with French and international partners to accelerate the expansion of Campus AI across France.

The initiative aims to develop up to 3 gigawatts (GW) of computing capacity nationwide, making it one of Europe’s most ambitious AI infrastructure projects.

The expansion, announced by Campus AI and its consortium partners, includes the imminent selection of a second site in France, effectively doubling the project’s initial investment and extending the program beyond its flagship campus in Fouju, Seine-et-Marne.

The move helps in building a pan-European network of AI factories capable of meeting the continent’s rapidly growing demand for advanced computing power.

Campus AI is a joint venture bringing together Bpifrance, the French public investment bank; Mistral, the European pioneer in generative artificial intelligence; MGX, a global AI and advanced technology investment firm; and NVIDIA, the global leader in accelerated computing.

Together, the partners aim to establish a robust AI ecosystem that supports innovation, technological sovereignty, and sustainable growth across Europe.

The initiative is expected to strengthen France’s position as a preferred location for large-scale, decarbonized AI infrastructure while supporting Europe’s increasing need for responsible and sustainable computing resources. As Campus AI expands nationwide, it will continue providing large-scale computing capacity to Mistral.

The announcement was made during the Choose France Summit and was witnessed by Emmanuel Macron, President of the French Republic, and HE Khaldoon Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority of Abu Dhabi and Secretary General of the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council, underscoring the strategic significance of the project for both France and the United Arab Emirates.

Beyond expanding computing capacity, the project is expected to create thousands of jobs across France and generate opportunities throughout the country’s industrial ecosystem.

Campus AI is working closely with French companies operating in power generation, battery technology, semiconductors, electronics, and other critical sectors, ensuring that the benefits of AI infrastructure development extend across the broader economy.

The expansion follows rapid progress at the original Fouju campus, where local authorities and community leaders have collaborated to attract investment and create employment opportunities in the Seine-et-Marne region.

The facility has been designed to meet high environmental standards, leveraging France’s largely decarbonized electricity grid, water-free cooling systems, and energy-efficient technologies to scale AI operations sustainably.

Thibaud Desfossés, President of Campus AI, said that France possesses the energy resources, talent base, and research capabilities required to lead Europe in artificial intelligence.

Desfossés noted that scaling Campus AI toward 3GW would create an open platform capable of supporting French suppliers, strengthening domestic value chains, and providing local AI champions with access to computing power at a scale previously unavailable.

The planned second site will adopt the same approach, combining close coordination with local authorities, strong environmental performance, and an industrial model focused on supporting European AI champions.
