Oman strengthens global aviation ties at 42nd ICAO Assembly

Oman has signed a series of strategic agreements aimed at strengthening its role in international air transport and economic cooperation.

The agreements include three bilateral agreements and two memoranda of understanding with various countries, focusing on expanding collaboration across key sectors.

Additionally, Oman signed a separate memorandum of understanding with the International Air Transport Association (IATA). This MoU is a significant step toward enhancing air connectivity for national carriers, fostering economic and trade partnerships, and reinforcing Oman’s position as a dynamic regional hub in global aviation.

The agreements were signed during the 42nd session of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Assembly, held in Montreal, Canada.

The two-week event brought together representatives from 193 Member States and 18 specialized international civil aviation organizations, providing a global platform for dialogue and cooperation in the aviation sector.

According to the reports, “The opening ceremony witnessed the nomination of Eng. Nayef bin Ali al Abri, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), to preside over the work of the 42nd Assembly.”

In recognition of its remarkable progress in safety oversight, Oman was also awarded the ICAO Council President’s Certificate, having ranked 5th globally with a compliance rate of 95.95 percent in the Universal Safety Oversight Audit Program (USOAP-CMA).

In its address to the Assembly, the Sultanate of Oman emphasized the strategic role of civil aviation in driving national economic growth and strengthening both regional and international air connectivity.

Oman also highlighted its strong performance in international safety and security audits, showcasing its commitment to global aviation standards. Additionally, the Sultanate announced its candidacy for the ICAO Council election in 2026, reaffirming its dedication to actively contributing to global aviation policy, with a focus on safety, security, and sustainability.
