Oman’s South A’Sharqiyah Governorate has signed an agreement worth $520,163 (RO200,000) in order to develop basic services in the governorate.
The agreement provides for establishing warehouses to store fishermen’s equipment in Shiaa area in the Wilayat of Sur.
The facility will provide a secure and well-structured space for fishermen, promote the sustainability of fishing as a livelihood, and enhance the efficiency of its operations.
The agreement also focuses on improving access to the governorate’s wilayats by restoring key mountain roads. This initiative will not only enhance traffic safety but also benefit local communities living in mountainous regions by providing better connectivity and easier access to essential services.
Additionally, the agreement outlines the development of a specialized training program aimed at preserving the shipbuilding industry. This initiative will help safeguard the region’s maritime heritage, while also transforming it into a sustainable economic and tourism asset, offering long-term benefits to both the local economy and cultural preservation.
Dr. Yahya Badr Al Maawali, Governor of South A’Sharqiyah, said that the agreement reflects the governorate’s commitment to enhance the existing partnership with the private sector and garner its potential as a key partner in achieving economic development and a major supporter of Oman Vision 2040.
Al Maawali pointed out that the agreement contributes to empowering the fisheries sector, meeting fishermen’s livelihood needs and upgrading the service infrastructure in priority areas within an institutional framework that ensures the realization of a sustainable impact.
