National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) of the Sulatanate of Oman and the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) to strengthen the exchange of statistical data and information, support economic studies and research, and enhance national capabilities in statistics, information, and research.

The agreement aims to deepen institutional collaboration, strengthen Oman’s national data ecosystem, and improve the competitiveness of the Sultanate’s business environment. Under the agreement, both sides will expand cooperation in exchanging statistical and economic data, preparing specialized studies and reports, and organizing joint training programs and workshops to strengthen national expertise in data management, statistical analysis, and economic research.

The MoC was signed by Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of NCSI, and Faisal Abdullah Al Rawas, Chairman of OCCI’s Board of Directors, along with HH Sayyid Dr. Adham bin Turki Al Said, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Economic Studies and Research Centre, in the presence of officials and specialists from both entities.

The deal supports national efforts to enhance institutional integration and establish effective mechanisms for data and information sharing. It seeks to maximize the use of statistical and knowledge resources while providing accurate and updated indicators to support strategic planning and decision-making across economic and development sectors.

The MoC also provides for the implementation of joint initiatives aimed at improving data quality, broadening its application across public and private sectors, and building an integrated knowledge base to help assess development policies, monitor economic performance, support evidence-based decision-making, and anticipate future economic trends and emerging opportunities.

Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of NCSI, pointed out that the agreement reflects NCSI’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with national institutions and advancing a reliable, integrated data ecosystem that supports sustainable development and informed decision-making.

He noted that collaboration with OCCI and its Economic Studies and Research Centre will expand the use of economic and commercial data, benefiting both the private sector and the national economy. The partnership will also enhance access to comprehensive indicators and support evidence-based economic studies and analyses. He added that the initiative aligns with efforts to promote data-driven culture, develop national capabilities in statistics and economic analysis, and support the goals of Oman Vision 2040.

Faisal Al Rawas commented that the agreement reinforces institutional integration and strengthens the economic knowledge ecosystem, enabling the private sector to respond more effectively to economic shifts and emerging investment opportunities. He emphasized that reliable data has become a cornerstone of policymaking, investment planning, and measuring the impact of development initiatives. The partnership with NCSI, he said, will improve access to official indicators and support higher-quality economic research and business intelligence.

He said the partnership will facilitate the exchange of expertise, improve analytical tools, and enhance the quality of economic indicators amid rapid changes in the national, regional, and global economy.

He further noted that the Economic Studies and Research Centre plays a key role in producing economic studies, reports, surveys, and analyses, making national statistics a critical foundation for informed policymaking and future planning.

The MoU underscores the shared commitment of NCSI, OCCI, and the Economic Studies and Research Centre to develop an integrated national statistics and information ecosystem, support sustainable economic and social development, and provide decision-makers and businesses with reliable data to advance the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
