The Qatar Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has launched an update of commercial activity classifications under the Unified Economic Guide for the Classification of Economic Activities in the GCC countries to enhance transparency, consistency, and efficiency across the business sector.

The initiative will align registered activities with the GCC framework, improve the accuracy of economic data, and support Qatar’s efforts to modernize its regulatory and business landscape.

It establishes a unified reference for commercial activities while enhancing the quality of information available to policymakers, businesses, and government entities.

MoCI stressed that the process will not change the nature of existing business operations or affect commercial registrations.

According to the Ministry, the revised framework forms part of a broader effort to develop a more precise system that keeps pace with regulatory requirements and economic developments.

It is also expected to streamline procedures, reduce overlap in classifications, and provide greater clarity for companies operating across different sectors.

The transition will be carried out in three phases. The first phase has begun, covering companies whose registered activities directly match a single category within the Unified Economic Classification system.

The second phase, scheduled to start on June 15, will address activities linked to multiple classification categories. The final phase, beginning on June 30, will focus on mixed commercial and industrial activities, completing the integration process.

MoCI noted that the initiative targets business owners, existing companies, and relevant government entities. The update will be implemented automatically under the approved standards, requiring no action from businesses.

The new framework is expected to strengthen data reliability, improve regulatory coordination, and support more effective economic planning.

It will also contribute to greater regional alignment by promoting a common classification model across GCC member states, enhancing consistency in business reporting and economic analysis.

MoCI reaffirmed that the exercise is administrative in nature and will not affect companies’ legal status, licensed operations, or commercial registration records, ensuring uninterrupted business continuity throughout the process.
