The Saudi Pharmaceutical Industries and Medical Appliances Corporation (SPIMACO), together with its wholly owned subsidiary SPIMACO BIO, has signed an exclusive collaboration and licensing agreement with Genetix Biotherapeutics.

The agreement covers the development, commercialization, manufacturing, and localization of the gene therapies LYFGENIA™ and ZYNTEGLO™ in Saudi Arabia and across the Middle East.

The agreement was signed at the Saudi Pavilion during the BIO International Convention 2026 in San Diego, California, in the presence of representatives from both companies and under the patronage of Abdulaziz Al-Ramaih, Vice Minister of Health for Planning and Development.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed Al-Jedai, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of SPIMACO, and David Meek, Chief Executive Officer of Genetix Biotherapeutics.

The deal establishes a long-term strategic partnership focused on expanding patient access to advanced gene therapies across Saudi Arabia and the Middle East while supporting biotechnology localization and knowledge transfer.

Under the agreement, SPIMACO and SPIMACO BIO will be responsible for obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals, overseeing product development, and leading commercial marketing activities in Saudi Arabia, the GCC countries, and the wider Middle East region.

SPIMACO will also utilize its manufacturing expertise to establish local production capabilities for the therapies in Saudi Arabia, supporting domestic biopharmaceutical manufacturing.

The collaboration covers LYFGENIA™ and ZYNTEGLO™, two one-time gene therapies developed to treat inherited blood disorders.

LYFGENIA™ is indicated for patients with sickle cell disease, while ZYNTEGLO™ is designed for patients with transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia. The agreement helps to improve patient access to these treatment options in Saudi Arabia and regional markets by supporting local development and commercialization.

The partnership also facilitates the transfer of technical expertise and strengthens local capabilities in advanced biotechnology.

The agreement is aligned with Saudi Arabia’s broader healthcare and industrial development objectives under Saudi Vision 2030, the National Biotechnology Strategy, and the National Industrial Strategy.
