Qatar MoCI unveils longer licenses, shorter renewal process

Qatar’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) has introduced a new facility to have extended license periods for commercial registrations. 

The ministry stated that commercial registrations and licenses can now be renewed for either one year or as long as five years (optional) through its website or “Single Window” given the validity period of the commercial license is equal to that of the commercial registration.

The move is in line with the Cabinet’s decision No (31) of 2019 on determining the registration period in the Commercial Register, and decision No (30) of 2019 on determining the licensing period for commercial and industrial outlets similar to public facilities and street vendors.

The decision forms part of the framework of the Ministry’s objectives to control the commercial environment, encourage investment and streamline procedures for investors.

The Ministry has earlier announced that it would work on taking necessary measured to ensure as the shorter period required to renew commercial licenses for outlets. Investors can now renew their licenses immediately compared to the 48-hour period they required to have prior to the decision.

The latest service is part of a number of smart electronic services provided by the Ministry to improve the business ecosystem in Qatar, and to streamline services for the Ministry’s clients, thereby encouraging investment and trade activities in the country.
