QatarEnergy and its partners have been awarded an exploration license for the Nzombo offshore block in the Republic of Congo.
Under the terms of the Production Sharing Contract signed with the Congolese Government, QatarEnergy will hold a 35 percent participating interest in the block.
TotalEnergies affiliate in Congo (the operator) will hold a 50 percent interest, while Societe Nationale des Petroles du Congo, the Congolese national oil company, will hold the remaining 15 percent.
Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi Minister of State for Energy Affairs – Qatar President & CEO QatarEnergy
“We are pleased to be awarded this promising offshore block in the Republic of Congo, and to work alongside our valued partners and the Congolese Government. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Government of the Republic of Congo for their valuable cooperation, and we look forward to delivering on a successful exploration campaign in collaboration with our partners and stakeholders.”
Located about 90 kilometers off the coast of Pointe-Noire, the Nzombo block covers an area of 1,053 square kilometers with water depths of more than 1,000 meters.
As per the reports, the block lies north of the Moho field, one of the largest oil production hubs in Congo, also operated by TotalEnergies. This proximity allows potential use of existing infrastructure, reducing development costs and timelines.
The participation of global energy players such as TotalEnergies and QatarEnergy, alongside the national oil company SNPC, signals strong international confidence in the region’s resource potential. The project is expected to contribute to national revenue generation, create skilled job opportunities, and stimulate local service sectors, reinforcing the country’s broader goals of energy sector growth and economic diversification.
