QatarEnergy has announced a notable hydrocarbon discovery in the Republic of Congo, marking a strategic addition to its expanding international upstream portfolio.

The discovery was made at the MHNM-6 NFW well within the Moho G structure, part of the country’s Moho offshore exploration and production license. QatarEnergy holds a 15 percent stake in TotalEnergies E&P Congo (TEPC), the operator of the license.

TEPC controls a 63.5 percent share alongside Trident Energy, with 21.5 percent, and Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo holding the remaining 15 percent.

The newly drilled well has encountered a substantial hydrocarbon column measuring approximately 160 meters within high-quality Albian reservoirs, indicating strong reservoir characteristics and commercial potential.

Comprehensive data acquisition and sampling activities have been completed to support detailed subsurface analysis and inform future development strategies.

The Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy HE Saad Sherida Al Kaabi commented that, “We are pleased to further strengthen our expanding international portfolio with this promising new discovery in the Republic of Congo. We look forward to working with our strategic partner, TotalEnergies, and with the Congolese government to develop these resources.”

The Moho field is one of Congo’s most prominent offshore assets and has been a focal point for exploration and production activities in recent years.

This latest discovery underscores the continued prospectivity of the region and reflects ongoing efforts by international energy companies to unlock additional reserves in mature yet still promising basins.

As global energy demand continues to evolve, new energy discoveries are expected to play a critical role in ensuring supply stability while supporting long-term investment in upstream development.
