The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has hosted the inaugural meeting of Arab maritime authorities, organized in coordination with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), on the sidelines of the second Sustainable Maritime Industry Conference (SIMC25).
This landmark gathering of Arab maritime authorities brought together key regional and international stakeholders to discuss opportunities for enhancing cooperation, advancing sustainability, and shaping the future of the maritime industry across the Arab world.
The meeting aimed to unify efforts and strengthen technical cooperation between Arab maritime authorities and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), within the framework of developing joint programs, strategic initiatives, and long-term partnerships that enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of Arab maritime operations.
The Arab maritime authorities meeting also sought to promote innovation, sustainability, and digital transformation in the maritime sector, while supporting capacity-building initiatives, strengthening safety standards, and ensuring greater regulatory alignment at both regional and international levels.
Additionally, the event emphasized knowledge sharing, the adoption of advanced technologies, and the development of human capital as essential drivers to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen resilience, and ultimately accelerate the overall growth and sustainable development of the maritime industry across the Arab region and beyond.
This hosting was led by Maritime Transport Deputy of Transport General Authority Eng. Essam Al-Amari, and Permanent Representative of Saudi Arabia to the IMO Eng. Kamal Al-Junaidi, both of whom played a pivotal role in organizing this important meeting. The efforts were instrumental in creating an effective dialogue environment that enhanced coordination and integration among Arab maritime authorities and opened avenues for regional and international cooperation.
