The Red Sea Development Company (TRSDC), the Saudi-based developer of two of the world’s most ambitious renewable projects, the Red Sea and Amaala destinations, has purchased a fleet of electric buses that represent the first phase of its adoption of a smart and sustainable mobility network in the Red Sea destination.

The purchase agreement with international e-mobility pioneers Electromin and Energy International Corporation make Red Sea Global (RSG) the owner of Saudi Arabia’s first-ever fleet of carbon-neutral electric buses, setting a historic milestone for vehicle manufacturers and Saudi licensing authorities.

The company has taken upon itself the task of setting new standards for renewable development, and the implementation of its ambitious plans with carbon-neutral operations represents a major part of achieving these goals, hence its adoption of a smart, environmentally friendly and carbon-free transportation strategy.

“TRSDC is fortunate to work with global manufacturers and operators that share their ambitious vision to reshape the concept of renewable tourism by leading the regional and global transformation in the sustainable transport sector with energy efficiency.”

The “Red Sea” destination development plans are proceeding per the timetable set to welcome its first visitors in 2023, once the first group of hotels opens the first phase of the development of the destination, with more than 50 percent of the first phase has been completed, and many of its major assets already operating at full operational capacity, including the management hotel for the company’s four-star staff, administrative offices in the destination, and the largest landscaping nursery in the Middle East.

Once completed, the “Red Sea” destination will include 50 resorts, 8,000 hotel rooms, and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland locations. The destination will also include an international airport, a luxury marina, a golf course, and leisure and retail facilities.

Deputy Governor of the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO), Eng. Saud Al-Askar said that “TRSDC is leading the transition phase for sustainable transport in the Kingdom, and SASO, as a major factor in enabling economic growth, is pleased to provide strategic support to “TRSDC” which will encourage other companies two follow suit in this regard.”
