The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) has signed a development loan agreement with Cameroon to finance the rehabilitation of the Sorawel–Dourbeye Road.
The agreement valued at $75 million was signed by HE Sultan Abdulrahman Al Marshad, CEO of the Saudi Fund for Development, and HE Alamine Ousmane Mey, Minister of Economy, Planning, and Regional Development of the Republic of Cameroon, in the presence of the Saudi Ambassador to the Republic of Cameroon, HE Ibrahim Al-Ghamdi.
The project aligns with Cameroon’s National Development Strategy 2030 and underscores SFD’s continued focus on delivering sustainable, people-centered development initiatives.
The rehabilitation of the road corridor is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing geographic isolation, improving mobility, and enhancing access to essential services for communities along the route.
Once completed, the upgraded corridor will strengthen connectivity within Cameroon and facilitate cross-border trade with neighboring countries, including Nigeria and Chad.
The improved infrastructure is expected to ease the movement of goods and people, supporting regional economic integration and unlocking new commercial opportunities.
Officials highlighted that enhanced road infrastructure will also improve access to key services such as healthcare and education, contributing to broader socio-economic development outcomes.
Alamine Ousmane Mey said that, “On behalf of the Government of Cameroon, we express our deep appreciation to the Saudi Fund for Development for its continued support of Cameroon’s structural projects.”
