The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has concluded the Generic Drugs Conference, held under the theme ‘Empowering Local Pharmaceutical Manufacturing’, at its headquarters in Riyadh.
The Generic Drugs Conference was attended by SFDA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Hisham Aljadhey, along with representatives of regulatory bodies, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare providers, and a number of investors and academic experts.

The agenda of the Generic Drugs Conference featured a series of scientific sessions and panel discussions that examined the future of the pharmaceutical sector amid rapid technological advancements transforming the global healthcare landscape. Discussions focused on global best practices and explored ways to align sector development with the strategic goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
The conference also spotlighted significant investment opportunities within the Kingdom, highlighting expanding government incentives designed to attract and support both local and international investors, thereby strengthening Saudi Arabia’s standing in the global pharmaceutical industry.
Several key themes were addressed, including investment prospects, government support measures, and the role of hospital drug formularies and procurement policies in encouraging the use of generic medicines in line with approved standards. Participants further underscored the importance of coordination among regulatory authorities to enhance public and clinical confidence in generic drugs.
During the closing session, speakers emphasized the need for continued collaboration between the SFDA, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and healthcare providers to drive innovation, speed up patient access to essential medicines, and incorporate industry feedback into regulatory frameworks that sustain high standards of quality and safety.
