Talabat join forces with UAE Food Bank to tackle food wastage

The leading food ordering company in the Middle East, Talabat has entered into an official agreement with The UAE Food Bank, a non-profit charitable organization which is a part of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), with an aim to aid in tackling food wastage in the UAE.

The new agreement marks the company’s efforts to make its practices in line with the UAE 2021 Vision and the national strategies aiming at sustainability and food waste reduction.

This new move also aligns with the key principles of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG), especially goal number 12, which aims to “halve the per capita food waste at the retail and consumer levels by 2030.”

The official partnership between Talabat and the UAE Food Bank was agreed on October 16 to mark World Food Day and to raise awareness on fighting hunger and the role of food wastage reduction in it.

Through this deal the Talabat mart, a quick-commerce grocery platform will contribute products that are nearing expiry date, but still safe for human consumption to the UAE Food Bank. Further, they will donate these items to people in need via approved organizations and charities around the UAE.

Ali Al Damanhouri, General Manager of Talabat mart UAE, expressed his gratitude on behalf of the company for allowing them to be part of this mission.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a rise in the need for greater food access and food security around the world. By joining forces with The UAE Food Bank, we will be able to fulfill our duty towards our community, while contributing to the government’s national effort to reduce food wastage and to provide food for those in need,” stated Al Damanhouri.

Dubai Municipality Food Safety Director, Iman Ali Al-Bastaki said, “With Talabat onboard our mission, we’ll be increasing our network of partners in the foodservice industry and there is no doubt that we will be able to expand our reach within the country. The company’s positive reputation in the market and a strong relationship with key stakeholders makes it a key ambassador for our cause.”

The latest partnership of Talabat with The UAE Food Bank is one of its many initiatives which is a part of its food waste management plan.
