UAE delegation meets UNODC to strengthen cooperation

A delegation from the General Secretariat of the UAE’s National Committee for Anti-Money Laundering, Combating the Financing of Terrorism, and Proliferation Financing met with officials at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Abu Dhabi to strengthen cooperation and coordinate initiatives on shared priorities.

The visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration between the UAE and the UNODC, with a focus on coordinating initiatives to tackle shared challenges in areas such as anti-money laundering, countering terrorism financing, and so on.

Furthermore, this partnership underscores both parties’ commitment to advancing global security and financial integrity through coordinated action and information sharing.

Hamid Saif Al Zaabi, Secretary-General and Vice Chairman of the committee, discussed with Dr. Hatem Aly, Regional Representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime for the GCC countries, the latest developments related to the 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, scheduled to be held in September 2026.

UAE-UNODC Collaboration Promotes Security Solutions

The UAE-UNODC meeting focused on key topics and events set to feature on the congress agenda, while also exploring opportunities to bolster initiatives aimed at enhancing crime prevention systems.

Discussions highlighted strategies for improving global security frameworks and reinforcing efforts to tackle emerging threats through international cooperation, as per the reports.

The UAE delegation-UNODC meeting also addressed the framework of joint regional work within the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), which is chaired by the UAE this year. Both sides affirmed the positive level of cooperation and their constructive contribution to supporting relevant regional and international efforts.
