Kuwait and and have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in energy security as both countries seek to address evolving global economic and geopolitical challenges.
The commitment was highlighted during a meeting in Jakarta between Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto and Kuwait’s Ambassador to Indonesia Khaled Al Yassin, with discussions focused on expanding bilateral economic and energy ties.
Hartarto pointed out that the relations between Indonesia and Kuwait are built on a strong foundation of mutual trust and shared economic interests, supporting the expansion of cooperation across key sectors, particularly energy security. He highlighted Kuwait’s growing role in Indonesia’s energy landscape, including the participation of Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Company (KUFPEC) in eight oil and gas exploration projects across the country.
He stated that that energy cooperation between the two nations was further reinforced through a memorandum of understanding signed in 2019, covering collaboration in oil, gas, petrochemicals, and related areas aimed at strengthening long-term energy partnerships.
Ambassador Al Yassin commented that the agreements between the nations reflect Indonesia’s strategic importance to Kuwait, particularly in the economic, investment, and energy sectors. He emphasized that continued cooperation would help expand bilateral ties and create new opportunities for businesses and investors from both countries.
The two sides also agreed to accelerate negotiations on a free trade agreement between Indonesia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), with the goal of concluding discussions by the end of 2026.
Bilateral trade ties between the countries have increased by 10.69 percent to $606 million in 2025, compared with $547.5 million in 2024. Kuwaiti investments in Indonesia also rose to $1.2 million in 2025, reflecting growing economic engagement between the two countries.
