The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable urban development through its participation in a high-level consultative meeting of the Asia-Pacific Group with the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat).

The meeting was held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, bringing together representatives from member states and diplomatic missions to discuss pressing urban development priorities.

The UAE’s participation underscores its continued engagement in international platforms aimed at advancing sustainable cities and enhancing quality of life, aligned with the broader objectives of the global urban agenda.

Discussions at the meeting centered on UN-Habitat’s strategic priorities and the implementation roadmap for its 2026–2029 strategic plan.

Delegates also reviewed progress on the UN80 initiative, explored updates on regional urban development projects, and examined preparations for the upcoming World Urban Forum 13.

The forum served as a platform for member states to align policy approaches, exchange best practices, and strengthen collaboration in addressing evolving urban challenges.

Particular emphasis was placed on sustainable housing, integrated urban planning, and resilience in the face of rapid global urbanization.

Participating countries contributed insights and policy perspectives, reinforcing the importance of coordinated regional efforts to tackle complex urban issues.

The dialogue highlighted the need for adaptive strategies that can respond to shifting economic, environmental, and demographic dynamics.

During the discussions, the UAE delegation stressed the importance of adopting flexible, innovation-driven development models supported by proactive planning frameworks. These approaches, it noted, are essential for ensuring long-term urban sustainability and resilience.

The UAE also showcased its own urban development experience as a benchmark for integrated and forward-looking infrastructure planning.

The delegation emphasized that the country’s urban transformation reflects the strength and efficiency of its national systems, as well as its capacity to adapt to emerging challenges.
