Bahrain’s Ministry of Industry and Commerce has signed an industrial land lease agreement with Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) to support the company’s expansion plans in waste processing and recycling solutions linked to its manufacturing operations, as the Kingdom continues to strengthen its industrial sustainability agenda.

The agreement covers an 18,000-square-meter industrial plot located near Alba’s production facilities and is aimed at enhancing the company’s operational capabilities in recycling and environmental management.

The Ministry said the agreement aligns with the objectives of Bahrain’s Industrial Sector Strategy 2022–2026, which focuses on advancing sustainable industrial development, improving operational efficiency, and accelerating initiatives that contribute to reducing carbon emissions.

Eman Ahmed Al Doseri, Undersecretary of the Bahraini Ministry of Industry and Commerce, said that the move reflects Bahrain’s commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060 through the adoption of environmentally sustainable industrial practices and advanced technologies.

She added that the Ministry remains committed to supporting factories and industrial companies by facilitating operational expansion, encouraging the adoption of modern technologies, and promoting sustainable industrial solutions that enhance competitiveness while reducing environmental impact.

The new industrial plot will support Alba’s efforts to expand its waste management and recycling operations as part of its broader sustainability and efficiency goals.

Ali Al Baqali, Chief Executive Officer of Alba, welcomed the Ministry’s support and described the agreement as a reflection of the strong strategic partnership between the company and the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

He commented that the cooperation underscores a shared commitment to advancing Bahrain’s industrial sector through sustainability-driven growth, operational efficiency, and long-term economic development initiatives.

According to the Ministry, the leased land is adjacent to other industrial plots currently allocated to Alba, highlighting ongoing collaboration between the government and the aluminim producer to facilitate future expansion projects.

The Ministry added that the agreement supports Bahrain’s broader economic diversification strategy and reinforces the Kingdom’s efforts to position itself as a regional hub for sustainable industrial development.

Alba, one of the world’s largest aluminum smelters, continues to play a key role in Bahrain’s industrial sector and economic growth, with sustainability and environmental responsibility forming a central part of its long-term business strategy.
