Bahrain and Japan have been advancing cooperation across energy, environmental, and climate sectors through sustained diplomatic engagement.
Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Bin Daina, Bahrain’s Minister of Oil and Environment and Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, held a series of meetings with senior Japanese officials in Tokyo on the sidelines of the Island States Ocean Summit.
The meetings were attended by Ahmed Mohammed Al Doseri, Bahrain’s Ambassador to Japan, and Amna Hamad Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment.
During discussions with Kenji Yamada, State Minister at Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, both sides explored opportunities to enhance cooperation in the energy and industrial sectors.
The talks also addressed potential investment opportunities and the exchange of advanced technologies aimed at supporting sustainable development and energy transition goals.
In a separate meeting with Doi Kentaro, Vice-Minister for Global Environmental Affairs at Japan’s Ministry of the Environment, the Bahraini delegation reviewed the Kingdom’s ongoing environmental and climate initiatives.
The discussions further focused on strengthening collaboration in scientific research, marine ecosystem monitoring, and climate resilience strategies, particularly relevant to island nations facing environmental challenges.

Dr. Bin Daina also met Yohei Sasakawa, Honorary Chairman of the Nippon Foundation, where both sides exchanged views on enhancing cooperation in environmental sustainability.
The discussions highlighted the importance of science-driven and innovative approaches to support island and coastal communities in addressing climate-related risks.
Additionally, the minister and the accompanying delegation held talks with officials from Japan’s Nuclear Regulation Authority. The meeting covered technical cooperation, regulatory frameworks, and the exchange of expertise in nuclear safety and governance practices.
The series of engagements underscored Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships in environmental protection, energy transition, and climate action while reinforcing its collaboration with Japan in advancing shared sustainability objectives and regulatory best practices.
