Qatar central bank has issued the country’s first license for an insurance policy price comparison website, marking a significant step in advancing the nation’s financial technology (FinTech) ecosystem while enhancing transparency, competition and consumer choice in the insurance market.

In a post on X, the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) stated that it had granted the license to Ammen, allowing the company to operate insurance price comparison website services in Qatar.

The central bank further said that the move is part of its broader strategy to strengthen the country’s financial technology (FinTech) ecosystem by fostering innovation, accelerating the adoption of digital financial services, and creating a more resilient, competitive and inclusive financial sector.

With the addition of Ammen, the number of financial technology companies operating under QCB’s supervision and regulatory oversight has risen to 16.

According to the statement, the licensing is expected to improve transparency and competition in Qatar’s insurance market by enabling customers to compare insurance policies, coverage options and pricing through a single digital platform. It also supports the country’s broader digital transformation agenda by making financial services more accessible and customer-centric.

Qatar’s banking sector entered 2026 on a strong footing, underpinned by robust balance sheet growth, stable funding profiles, disciplined credit risk management and continued alignment with the country’s national development priorities, according to a recent PwC report.

The report noted that the listed Qatari banks recorded solid growth in assets, lending and customer deposits during 2025, demonstrating resilience despite global economic uncertainty and a lower interest rate environment.

The latest licensing decision reflects the QCB’s broader efforts to strengthen the country’s financial technology ecosystem. In recent years, the QCB has steadily expanded its FinTech regulatory framework through initiatives such as licensing regimes and regulatory sandbox programs designed to encourage innovation while maintaining financial stability.
