The Bahraini Ministry of Interior has inaugurated three strategic projects at the Information and eGovernment Authority (iGA), in the presence of committee members and senior officials.
Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Information and Communication Technology, highlighted that the adoption of innovative digital technologies and secure government services reflects Bahrain’s commitment to comprehensive development. Bahrain’s digital transformation efforts have positioned the kingdom among global leaders in the United Nations e-Government Development Index.
Shaikh Al Khalifa called for coordination between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs to enable the use of the identity card as a travel document by integrating information from both documents and coordinating with other countries for its adoption.
As part of the government’s 2023-2026 digital transformation program, the minister inaugurated a new self-service center, where he was briefed on its platforms that provide 24/7 government services. The center includes six self-service kiosks offering identity data updates, government services, and electronic payment options.
The minister also reviewed ongoing developments at the identity card services center, where he was introduced to the newly launched identity card, designed with the latest international security standards and advanced technology.
Additionally, the ministry inaugurated Innovation Lab, a national platform for developing prototype solutions within government entities. The lab aims to foster a culture of innovation in public services, accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence, enhance technical capabilities, and position Bahrain as a regional hub for emerging technologies. Among its initiatives is the development of the Tawasul system using AI technology.
The minister also highlighted iGA’s role in advancing Bahrain’s digital transformation strategy and providing efficient e-services to citizens and residents. He commended the successful implementation of the projects and their contribution to Bahrain’s leadership in technology and innovation, expressing appreciation to iGA’s CEO and teams for their efforts in developing pioneering digital solutions.
