The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) Bahrain has launched the ‘Madar’ system for medical device registration and the ‘Tatabu’ system for tracking medical devices and supplies, as part of efforts to strengthen digital oversight and advance healthcare regulation in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The NHRA said the launch of the two systems supports its digital transformation strategy and aims to enhance the regulatory framework for medical devices and supplies, while improving healthcare service efficiency and ensuring the highest standards of quality and patient safety.
The ‘Madar‘ system automates and streamlines the registration process for medical devices, improving services for manufacturers, agents and suppliers. The platform is designed to accelerate transaction processing, increase transparency and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements aligned with international standards and best practices.
The ‘Tatabu‘ system strengthens patient safety and regulatory monitoring by enabling the tracking of medical devices and supplies throughout the supply chain. The system applies internationally recognised standards for traceability and product identification, supporting quality assurance, safety monitoring and effective oversight of medical products.
The NHRA highlighted that ‘Tatabu’ is the first fully integrated national platform for tracking medical devices and supplies across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, reflecting Bahrain’s efforts to adopt advanced digital solutions and modern healthcare regulatory systems.
The Authority said the two projects represent a strategic step towards developing an integrated digital ecosystem that supports decision-making, improves regulatory operations and enhances oversight services. The initiatives also reinforce Bahrain’s position as a regional hub for advanced healthcare systems and regulatory innovation.
The launch event included recognition of partners and organizations that contributed to the development and implementation of the two projects, in appreciation of their efforts and contribution to the success of the national initiative.
The NHRA said the projects highlight the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in driving innovation and supporting the continued development of Bahrain’s healthcare sector.
