Bahrain’s Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications has launched the Uber Black service on a trial basis in partnership with Uber, introducing a new premium mobility option under a regulatory framework aimed at ensuring efficiency, reliability, and high service standards.
Fatima Abdullah Al Dhaen, Undersecretary for Land Transport and Post at the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, said that the initiative forms part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to develop Bahrain’s transport sector and provide diverse transportation options that meet the needs of different segments of society.
Al Dhaen said the Uber Black service will initially be introduced on a limited trial basis through partnerships with licensed companies in Bahrain and via the Uber platform. The pilot phase is intended to support the provision of new and diverse transport options for users across the Kingdom while allowing authorities to assess operational performance and service quality.
She explained that the service will be available in carefully selected locations during the trial period before any gradual expansion. Users will be able to view the areas covered by the service directly through the Uber application, providing a transparent and user-friendly experience. Al Dhaen noted that the initiative reflects the joint efforts of the ministry and Uber to leverage technology in advancing transportation services in Bahrain.
She added that Uber Black operates under the supervision and regulation of the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications and offers a premium transport experience focused on luxury and professionalism. The service will utilize a fleet of high-end vehicles owned by licensed companies specializing in chauffeur-driven luxury car rental services.
Al Dhaen affirmed that all vehicles participating in the service are subject to periodic technical inspections approved by the relevant authorities to ensure high standards of comfort and safety for passengers.
