Dubai Municipality has successfully completed Phase 1 of the Sewerage and Stormwater Network Development Project in the Al Quoz Creative Zone.
The initial phase, valued at $68 million (AED250 million), forms part of a broader $136 million (AED500 million) investment aimed at upgrading and future-proofing critical urban infrastructure.
The large-scale project is designed to deliver an integrated, resilient, and sustainable sewerage and stormwater system serving Al Quoz Industrial Areas 1, 2, 3, and 4, along with the corridor between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.
Spanning 1,600 hectares and covering more than 1,507 plots, the development represents a significant enhancement of Dubai’s urban utility framework.
Phase 1 covered 155 hectares and 123 plots, focusing on the construction of advanced sewerage and stormwater drainage networks.
The sewerage infrastructure laid during this phase extends 15 kilometers, with pipeline diameters ranging from 160 mm to 1,600 mm. In parallel, an integrated stormwater drainage system spanning 14 kilometers was developed, featuring pipe diameters between 200 mm and 3,000 mm.
The works are intended to improve network efficiency, reduce surface water accumulation, and ensure uninterrupted service delivery across one of Dubai’s busiest commercial zones.
The project is aligned with Dubai’s broader Sewerage System Development Program, which aims to modernize the emirate’s wastewater infrastructure into a more efficient, adaptive, and sustainable network.
It also supports the $8.16 billion (AED30 billion) Tasreef stormwater initiative, designed to significantly enhance drainage capacity by up to 700 percent over the next century, making it one of the region’s most advanced systems.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita Director General Dubai Municipality
“The Sewerage and Stormwater Network Development Project in Al Quoz is one of Dubai Municipality’s key strategic projects. It supports Dubai’s ongoing urban and population growth, reinforces its position as a global leader in sustainable urban planning, and strengthens the future readiness of its infrastructure, making Dubai a more attractive, sustainable, and liveable city.”
Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency, added that, “This project contributes to enhancing the efficiency of the rainwater drainage system and the smooth flow of water in the Al Quoz Creative Zone while reducing water accumulation. This ensures the continuity of services and business operations and supports the city’s resilience and preparedness to face various future climatic conditions.”
