The Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) Annual Congress is hosting pre-event webinars focusing on circular and net-zero cities, prior to the in-person event which is set to be held on November 2, 2021.

The tenth edition of the event, organized under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, is themed, ‘15 years of EmiratesGBC: From Green Buildings towards Sustainable Cities 2030.’

The Congress, which focuses on raising awareness of green building principles, offers a platform for global and regional experts to discuss the latest innovations in the sector and acts as a forum for networking and discussion between members and industry and government stakeholders.

The first webinar of the 2021 EmiratesGBC Annual Congress was held with a discussion on ‘Circular Cities’ followed by a panel on ‘Healthy Cities’ and the second webinar which is scheduled for October 19 will focus on Net Zero Cities and Resilient Cities.

“This year’s EmiratesGBC Annual Congress marks a true milestone for us, as we celebrate our own evolution from championing green buildings to being at the forefront of the conversation on net-zero and sustainable cities. This transformational change was possible only because the UAE and regional leadership believe in the need for positive climate change action and a shift to net-zero emission buildings. Our pre-Congress webinars set the stage for these important discussions, and the outcomes will be further deliberated at the in-person event.”

Among the key topics to be discussed at the 10th Annual Congress include the impact of rapid population and urban growth on building sustainable cities and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the climate change narrative. The discussions will also highlight the innovation and vision needed to achieve the goal of net-zero carbon cities.
