The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) has signed three agreements with Chinese nuclear energy organizations as it seeks to promote low-carbon nuclear power.

The agreements were signed during a visit to China by Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of ENEC.

The Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed with China’s Nuclear Power Operations Research Institute, the China National Nuclear Corporation Overseas, and the China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation.

ENEC said in a statement that the three MoUs cover cooperation in nuclear energy operations, in high-temperature gas-cooled reactors, and nuclear fuel supply and investment.

The first MoU with the Nuclear Power Operations Research Institute will explore collaboration in nuclear energy operations and maintenance, while the second MoU with the China National Nuclear Corporation Overseas will focus on cooperation in the field of high-temperature gas-cooled reactors.

The MoUs with the Nuclear Power Operations Research Institute and the China National Nuclear Corporation Overseas were signed by Mr. Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Executive Director for Fuel Procurement and Analysis at ENEC, and the Chinese counterparts.

The third MoU with the China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation will explore possible collaboration in nuclear fuel supply and investment. The MoU with the China Nuclear Energy Industry Corporation was signed by Dr. Mohamed Chookah, Nuclear Fuel Management Vice President at ENEC, and will focus on possible collaboration in nuclear fuel supply and investment.

“The MoUs with Chinese companies highlight ENEC’s continued commitment to collaboration with the international nuclear energy community, sharing best practices, knowledge, and lessons learned,” according to the statement.
