The agreement builds on the longstanding relationship between the two countries and follows the announcement made during the visit of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to the United States in November last year regarding the conclusion of negotiations on bilateral nuclear cooperation.

The agreement was signed by Saudi Arabia Minister of Energy and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz and US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright. It aims to promote the exchange of expertise, knowledge, and technologies while supporting joint efforts in nuclear energy development.
