GCC Secretary-General Jassem Mohammed Al Budaiwi has engaged in talks with European Commissioner for Mediterranean Affairs (North Africa and the Middle East) Dubravka Suica, on the sidelines of the Dubrovnik Forum 2025, held in Croatia.
The discussion centered on the ongoing negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the GCC and the EU. In addition, the two leaders discussed a proposal to organize a joint GCC-EU conference on energy security to enhance cooperation in the field of energy transition, sustainable energy supply and more.
The joint GCC-EU conference would bring together representatives from both the public and private sectors. This highlights both parties’ mutual commitment to addressing the challenges in global energy while driving innovation and sustainable solutions.
During the meeting, the two sides also reviewed the paths of cooperation between the GCC and the European Union. They explored and exchanged views on current regional and international developments, highlighting the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation between the GCC and the EU.
Furthermore, they aim to strengthen joint efforts to support security, stability, and sustainable development in the region and the world.
The 18th edition of Dubrovnik Forum, held from July 11 to 12, revolved around the title “Channelling the Change”. The conference gathered foreign ministers, senior officials, and experts from around the world, serving as a thriving platform to address geopolitical, security, economic and environmental issues.
The forum covered key topics such as intercontinental trade, European defense capabilities, climate-related issues, the Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans, and Africa’s emerging role in the evolving global landscape.
