The Executive Council of the GCC Customs Union Authority has launched a temporary mechanism for logistical transit to mitigate the impact of the recent Iranian aggression affecting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Shaikh Ahmed bin Hamad Al Khalifa, President of Customs, announced that the initiative is designed to accelerate the movement of goods between GCC member states, reduce operational costs, and ensure the uninterrupted flow of trade across regional entry points.
By streamlining transit procedures, the mechanism aims to reinforce the resilience of Gulf supply chains during times of regional instability.
Under the mechanism, a logistics fast track has been established, linking major ports and airports across GCC countries. Sealed trucks can now transit without requiring final customs clearance at intermediate points, significantly reducing transit time and simplifying procedural requirements.
Shipment data, including cargo manifests and related documentation, are exchanged in advance between customs authorities to ensure efficient and seamless movement of goods.
Shaikh Ahmed emphasized that priority will be given to essential goods, such as food, medical supplies, and perishable items, ensuring their timely delivery to affected markets.
At the same time, strict security controls are applied to trucks and shipments, with predefined measures taken for any suspicious cargo to maintain both safety and operational efficiency.
Shaikh Ahmed said that, “The mechanism strengthens the flow of goods among GCC countries during crises, enhances logistical efficiency, reduces customs complexities, and supports Gulf economic and customs integration. It also safeguards the competitiveness of regional and international markets while ensuring the timely movement of trade across all participating entry points.”
The GCC Customs Authority’s temporary transit mechanism reflects a proactive approach to regional trade management, combining operational flexibility, security, and economic foresight to address emerging geopolitical challenges.
