The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has underscored the importance of enhancing strategic cooperation between its member states and Mediterranean nations, highlighting the role such collaboration plays in reinforcing regional security, stability, and shared economic development.
This emphasis came during the participation of GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi in a high-level panel discussion held as part of the Dubrovnik Forum 2025. The annual forum, hosted by the Republic of Croatia in the city of Dubrovnik on July 11–12, convened international leaders to discuss pressing regional and global challenges, including the future of cooperation between Mediterranean countries and international organizations.
Albudaiwi highlighted the critical importance of fostering stronger ties with Mediterranean-bordering states, affirming that these partnerships are essential for advancing mutual prosperity, sustainable development, and regional peace.
He noted that the strategic location of GCC countries, their regional and global standing, their credibility on the international stage, their growing economic power, and their pivotal role in ensuring global energy security all serve as fundamental pillars for building effective and integrated partnerships with Mediterranean nations.
Albudaiwi further added that the Gulf Cooperation Council, grounded in these foundations, is a reliable and influential partner with the capacity to contribute meaningfully to regional stability and development initiatives both within and beyond the Mediterranean.
Albudaiwi reiterated the Council’s firm commitment to continuing efforts that strengthen dialogue and deepen cooperation with various international and regional actors. He noted that such efforts serve the common interests of all parties involved and contribute to the wider goal of fostering global peace and security.
The GCC’s participation in the Dubrovnik Forum 2025 reflects its broader diplomatic strategy of building alliances that promote multilateral cooperation, regional integration, and sustainable economic partnerships.
The panel discussion served as a platform to explore evolving regional dynamics and the need for robust engagement between the GCC and Mediterranean countries, in line with the Council’s long-term vision of ensuring stability, inclusive growth, and cross-border collaboration.
The GCC continues to position itself as a proactive regional bloc that supports international dialogue and partnership, especially in areas critical to global development and geopolitical balance. The Secretary-General further emphasized the Council’s keenness to continue strengthening dialogue and cooperation with various regional and international partners, in a manner that serves common interests and promotes global security and peace.
