Tourism ministers of the GCC Nations have convened a virtual meeting on April 7, 2026, to assess regional developments and their potential impact on the tourism sector, reaffirming the bloc’s commitment to stability, safety and continued sector growth.
Condemnation of Iranian actions
The ministers strongly condemned what they described as unjustified Iranian attacks targeting civilian infrastructure, including ports, airports, energy facilities, desalination plants, residential and commercial areas, and tourism assets such as hotels.
They stated that such actions violate the sovereignty and territorial integrity of GCC member states and constitute breaches of international law and the United Nations Charter. The ministers called on Iran to comply with its obligations under UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which requires an immediate halt to aggression or threats against neighboring countries.
They also welcomed the adoption of UN Human Rights Council Resolution A/HRC/RES/61/1 and its supportive stance toward GCC countries.
Tourism stability and continuity
The ministers underscored that GCC countries remain secure and attractive destinations for international tourism, supported by strong leadership and ongoing sector development as part of broader economic diversification strategies.
They highlighted that the sector continues to operate efficiently, backed by advanced infrastructure, robust service ecosystems and high operational readiness, ensuring continuity despite regional developments.
Operational readiness and visitor safety
GCC’s top tourist destinations continue to receive visitors, with facilities operating under approved frameworks that reflect high preparedness across the sector.
The ministers reiterated that visitor safety remains a top priority, with competent authorities maintaining strong readiness and the capacity to manage evolving situations effectively. They noted that regulatory systems across GCC countries demonstrate resilience and stability in addressing emerging challenges.
Investor support and sector coordination
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to supporting investments and safeguarding projects from potential disruptions. Joint initiatives and programs will continue, alongside enhanced cooperation among tourism authorities to sustain sector growth.
They also stressed the importance of coordinated efforts and the development of rapid-response plans to address any developments affecting the sector.
Strengthening joint Gulf action
The meeting highlighted the importance of unified Gulf coordination to reinforce sector stability and protect achievements. Continued collaboration aims to strengthen the GCC’s position as a reliable global tourism hub while ensuring that projects and initiatives progress as planned.
Resilience and growth outlook
The ministers pointed to the sector’s resilience, citing its strong foundations, diverse assets, flexible regulatory frameworks and accumulated expertise in crisis management. They said these factors position GCC countries to navigate current challenges and accelerate recovery.
They added that ongoing developments do not alter the sector’s long-term trajectory but instead demonstrate its structural strength and ability to enhance competitiveness and leadership regionally and globally.
Commitment to GCC Tourism Strategy
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to joint action under the GCC Tourism Strategy, aimed at supporting economic growth, creating employment opportunities and delivering high-quality services to global visitors.
They emphasized that GCC destinations will continue to offer safe and high-quality tourism experiences while maintaining steady growth and readiness to respond to future developments.
