The tech giant, Google has finally announced a significant update to a long-requested change by its users, which is to change the Gmail address.
Most of us have an unprofessional Gmail address that was probably made in high school. Little did we know back then that a Gmail address is an important factor in one’s career. One can change their Gmail address, but doing so all the data also gets erased. The new update removes this issue and saves data attached to our Gmail.
However, the updated guidance on email address changes appears only in the Hindi version of Google’s support page, suggesting the rollout may begin in India or Hindi-speaking markets.
With this change, Google will allow users to change their “@gmail.com” email address to a new address with an altered username.
After changing, Google details that your original email address will still receive emails in the same inbox as your new one and work for sign-in, and that none of your account access will change. Users will be unable to change or delete their email within 12 months of the change.
Each account can only change its “@gmail.com” address up to 3 times for a total of 4 addresses.
Google further details that the old Gmail address will still appear in some cases, and “won’t be immediately reflected in older instances” such as events on Calendar created before the change. User will also still be able to send emails from the old address. The old address remains yours and cannot be used by another user.
