Jeddah will host the International Media Forum titled “The Role of Media in Inciting Hatred and Violence – Risks of Misinformation and Bias” on 26th November 2023.

The forum is organized by the Assistant Secretariat for Institutional Communication at the Muslim World League (MWL) and the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (UNA).

The International Media Forum intends to generate a joint declaration that serves as a reminder of the moral values upheld by the media profession.

The media forum is conducted with a specific emphasis on the Palestinian cause. Sheikh Dr. Mohammed Al-Issa, Secretary General of the MWL, Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, the Secretary General of the OIC, and Mr. Ahmad Assaf, the General Supervisor of Official Media in the State of Palestine will be in attendance at the forum.

The forum will involve in-depth discussions on the role of religious institutions and leaders in countering hatred propagated through media platforms. Further, the forum will deliberate on the moral responsibility of international media in addressing global events and topics with objectivity and balance.

According to the statement, “Given the prevalent misinformation and media bias surrounding the Palestinian cause, special attention will be given to this issue during the discussions. Official news agencies from the OIC member states and international media organizations will participate in the forum alongside religious, intellectual, legal, and human rights authorities, as well as leaders from international organizations.”
