King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) has signed a strategic partnership with SPHERA, a company specialized in providing gaming and esports services, to enhance digital infrastructure and support the growing esports ecosystem in Saudi Arabia.

The partnership aims to establish the infrastructure required to host the company and connect it to the Saudi Arabian Internet Exchange (SAIX), managed by KACST under the oversight of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

This connection will allow the company to reach users across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and deliver an optimal user experience in gaming and esports.

In the presence of several officials from both parties, Founder and CEO of SPHERA, Faisal Al-Aql, and General Manager of the General Directorate of Internet Technologies at KACST, Eng. Mohammed Al-Ghamdi signed the agreement on the sidelines of the New Global Sport Conference.

The partnership aims to support and encourage innovation and investment in the gaming sector by providing an enabling environment for local startups and developers, utilizing an advanced and secure digital infrastructure that improves the quality of user experience and reduces response time.

It also aims to support gaming and esports services, as well as advanced cloud services for the gaming community and game developers in the Kingdom.

This partnership will enable local developers to produce and develop world-class games, establish technology platforms, and create investment opportunities and new jobs in technology fields that support innovation and strengthen the digital economy in the gaming and esports sector in the Kingdom.

Through this partnership, KACST seeks to support local companies, improve digital sovereignty and information security by hosting data and services within the Kingdom, and attract regional and global partnerships by offering advanced services capable of competing in the global market.

This will support the Kingdom’s efforts to become a regional hub for gaming and esports, in line with national aspirations and priorities for research, development, and innovation, and the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
