The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) has granted regulatory approval for Jascayd (nerandomilast), an innovative treatment for adult patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis (PPF), marking a significant step in expanding access to advanced therapies and strengthening healthcare standards in the UAE.
The approval reinforces the UAE’s commitment to accelerating access to innovative medicines while supporting improved outcomes for patients living with chronic and progressive lung diseases.
Jascayd is a novel therapy that works through the selective inhibition of phosphodiesterase-4B (PDE4B). The treatment is designed to help slow the decline in lung function among patients diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis and Progressive Pulmonary Fibrosis, conditions that can significantly impact respiratory health and quality of life.
The regulatory approval followed a comprehensive scientific and regulatory evaluation conducted by the Emirates Drug Establishment. The assessment included a detailed review of the treatment’s quality, safety, efficacy, and supporting clinical evidence to ensure compliance with internationally recognized standards.
According to EDE, the decision was based on clinical study results demonstrating the therapy’s ability to reduce the rate of lung function decline in patients affected by IPF and PPF.
UAE leads region in Jascayd approval
With the approval of Jascayd, the UAE becomes the first country in the region and the third globally, after the United States and China, to authorize the treatment. The milestone highlights the efficiency of the UAE’s pharmaceutical regulatory framework and its ability to evaluate and approve innovative therapies in a timely manner.
The Emirates Drug Establishment also underscored the importance of early diagnosis and regular medical follow-up for patients with chronic lung diseases, noting that timely intervention can help improve treatment outcomes, support better disease management, and enhance overall quality of life.
