Denmark-based international container shipping company Maersk’s integrated container logistics arm Maersk Kanoo UAE has signed an agreement with DP World’s leading trade and logistics hub, Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) to set up its first Warehousing & Distribution (W&D) facility in the UAE.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Christopher Cook, Managing Director at Maersk UAE and Mr. Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO & Managing Director at DP World, UAE Region and Jafza at Maersk West & Central Asia regional headquarter in Dubai.

Once completed, the 10,000 square meter facility located within Jafza in Dubai will be an integrated solution for Maersk’s customers wherein the customers will get single window access to multiple logistics requirements, not only for the goods flowing in and out of UAE, but also to other Middle Eastern countries that use Dubai as a gateway to global trade.

Maersk will add the new W&D facility to its existing portfolio of over 250 warehouses covering 1.5 million square meters in 50 countries. The facility will have an 80,000-cubic-meter storage capacity and will serve various industries, including petrochemicals, retail and lifestyle, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), technology, and automotive.

“At Maersk, we are committed to connect and simplify our customers’ supply chains. And in today’s times, adding flexibility to their supply chains has become more crucial than ever. I am excited that we are taking a solid step in this direction with the announcement of our first W&D facility in the UAE. Our customers deserve solutions that add value and create efficiencies to their supply chains. With our state-of-the-art W&D facility, I am confident that we are poised well to take on this responsibility.”

The facility is strategically positioned, with easy access to both seaport operations and the Al Maktoum Airport. This will enable the facility to serve customers who require air cross-docking as well as those who are transporting less-than-container-load (LCL) cargo.

The Maersk W&D facility will be equipped with a cutting-edge warehouse management system that incorporates the latest technology and digital solutions for effective inventory management, unit-level tracking and tracing, and rich dashboards for more visibility and deeper insights. For example, wastages in FMCG can be reduced to zero with advanced solutions for expiry date management giving Maersk’s customers a cost-competitive edge.

“We are proud to welcome Maersk, DP World’s longstanding partner in trade, to set up their first Warehousing & Distribution facility of UAE in Jafza. This move is building on the legacy of DP World and Maersk, and we look forward to extending our support through their journey with us,” said Mr. Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO & Managing Director, DP World, UAE Region & Jafza.
