The agreement was signed by Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan, Minister of Electricity and Water Affairs, and Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah).
Under the agreement, the Ministry will offer technical support and advice to Edamah on incorporating sustainable energy solutions, such as renewable energy and energy efficiency practices, into the company’s facilities and buildings.
Humaidan stated that the framework is an integral part of the Ministry’s efforts to implement Bahrain’s National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP). The initiative also highlights Edamah’s commitment to contributing to the national sustainability efforts.
The Minister added that Edamah’s move to adopt renewable energy sources falls in line with the national framework to optimize and ensure the sustainability of energy resources.
Humaidan also thanked Edamah for its pioneering efforts in embracing renewable energy and benefiting from NREAP, particularly in solar energy systems, which have been improved by the latest solar panel technologies.
Shaikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Chairman of Edamah, expressed his appreciation to the minister and the ministry’s team for their commitment to supporting the objectives of Bahrain’s NREAP.
Chairman stressed that the company’s dedication to employing renewable energy sources to ensure resource sustainability, optimize energy use, and promote the green economy, falls in line with the national goal of reducing emissions by 30 percent by 2035 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
Bahrain’s NREAP seeks to contribute 5 percent of renewable energy to the total energy mix by 2025, increasing to 20 percent by 2035.
