The Sultanate of Oman and the United Kingdom (UK) have reviewed their bilateral relations and explored ways to strengthen their strategic partnership across economic, developmental, investment, and other key sectors.
This included following up on the outcomes of the Strategic Dialogue Team and the Joint Working Group, as well as completing and advancing the programs and work tracks previously agreed upon by both sides, with the aim of serving common interests and broadening the prospects of bilateral cooperation across various fields.
The discussions came during a meeting held in London between Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom (UK).
At the regional level, Oman and UK exchanged views on key issues of mutual interest, including developments. They underscored the importance of supporting efforts to consolidate the truce in Yemen and advance an inclusive political dialogue that preserves the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The ministers from both sides also emphasized the urgent need to intensify humanitarian assistance for the Gaza Strip, work toward a permanent ceasefire, support reconstruction efforts, and revive the peace process in line with the two-state solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
On the Iranian nuclear file, Oman and UK stressed the importance of creating conditions conducive to reviving diplomacy and resuming negotiations to reduce regional tensions and enhance security and stability.
Regarding Sudan, the ministers discussed the worsening humanitarian situation and the need to achieve a cessation of hostilities and a truce that would enable UN agencies to deliver aid and facilitate a political settlement among the parties to the conflict.
