Oman, Sudan expand maritime transport and logistics cooperation

Oman and Sudan have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in ports, maritime transport, and logistics services, supporting economic cooperation and supply chain connectivity between the two countries.

The agreement was signed during the visit of HE Saif Al Nasr Al Tijani, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Sudan, to the Sultanate of Oman, where he held talks with HE Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al Maawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology of Oman.

During the meeting, the two ministers reviewed bilateral cooperation in transport, ports, and logistics and discussed opportunities to expand collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

The MoU was signed by Omar bin Mahmoud Al Mahrizi, Chief Executive Officer of Asyad Ports and Free Zones Company, a subsidiary of Asyad Group, on behalf of Oman, and by Engineer Consultant Gilani Mohamed Gilani, Director General of the Sea Ports Corporation, on behalf of Sudan.

The agreement strengthens cooperation in port development, maritime transport, and logistics services while supporting economic development and improving maritime connectivity between the two countries.

The cooperation covers the exchange of expertise in port planning, infrastructure development, and the management of maritime facilities.

It also includes training programs, workshops, technical exchanges, and reciprocal visits to support knowledge sharing between specialists from both sides.

In addition, the MoU provides for cooperation in digital transformation and the application of modern technologies in port management and operations.

The two sides will exchange international best practices to improve operational efficiency and enhance the quality of port services.

The agreement also establishes a framework for identifying future cooperation opportunities and joint projects in the maritime and logistics sectors. Both parties will explore initiatives that support maritime trade, strengthen supply chains, and improve logistics connectivity between Oman and Sudan.
