OpenAI has unveiled its latest AI model GPT-5, marking the next major advancement in large-scale artificial intelligence, by introducing a more intelligent, faster, and safer AI model.
Available for all users, including free-tier accounts, the new model promises to offer significant improvements in speed, intelligence, and versatility, particularly in areas like writing, coding, and healthcare.
The launch follows the rapid growth of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which has garnered nearly 700 million weekly active users. The company is also in discussions with investors for a potential stock sale, with a valuation expected to reach $500 billion.
GPT-5 offers notable improvements over previous versions, including a reduced ‘hallucination’ rate, meaning the model now generates fewer incorrect or fabricated answers. OpenAI emphasized that GPT-5 underwent over 5,000 hours of testing, ensuring higher safety standards in its development.
The new version also includes a feature called ‘safe completions’, which provides high-level responses in risky situations, thereby minimizing harm. The model’s ability to recognize when a task cannot be completed and to explain its limitations more clearly represents another leap in reliability and transparency.
Another notable feature is its ability to assist in ‘vibe coding’, where users generate functional software based on simple written prompts.
The rollout includes various access levels: Free users will receive limited access to GPT-5 mini once they hit their usage cap, while Plus and Pro users will have higher limits, with Pro subscribers gaining unlimited access. Enterprise users will gain access within a week.
The new model’s reach extends beyond OpenAI’s direct offerings. Microsoft products, including Microsoft 365 Copilot and Azure AI, will integrate the version to enhance their functionality, bringing the AI model to a broader user base. Additionally, developers can access GPT-5 via the OpenAI API in three versions: GPT-5, GPT-5-mini, and GPT-5-nano, catered to different cost and latency needs.
Box, a cloud storage company, has already tested GPT-5 on complex data sets, praising its enhanced reasoning and retention abilities, which set it apart from prior models that struggled with long documents and intricate logic. With its availability, OpenAI aims to make AI more accessible and practical for both consumers and developers, ushering in a new era of more advanced, human-like artificial intelligence.
