The Public Investment Fund (PIF), Saudi Information Technology Company (SITE), and Microsoft have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the introduction of Microsoft’s sovereign-cloud services in Saudi Arabia.

This collaboration aims to enhance the security, sovereignty, and confidentiality of data within the Kingdom, while also unlocking access to advanced cloud and AI technologies.

According to the company statement, Microsoft brings comprehensive expertise in delivering sovereign-cloud capabilities that allow governments and regulated industries across the world to leverage cloud technology while keeping data under national jurisdiction, fully adhering to local laws and regulations.

Under the terms of the MoU, Microsoft will collaborate with PIF and SITE to evaluate how its sovereign-cloud model can enhance Saudi Arabia’s security, compliance, and data residency objectives, while also enabling access to cutting-edge cloud and AI technologies.

The MoU also intends to deepen collaboration in key areas such as joint research, development, innovation, and knowledge transfer.

PIF’s strategy for the information and communication technology sector aims to position Saudi Arabia as a globally competitive hub by fostering innovation and building capacity, all in support of its mission to drive the development and diversification of the domestic economy.

The collaboration between PIF, SITE, and Microsoft is designed to support Saudi Arabia’s ambition to enhance its digital infrastructure and drive growth in the information and communication technology (ICT) sector.

By leveraging advanced cloud and AI technologies, the partnership aims to accelerate the Kingdom’s digital transformation, reinforcing its position as a global leader in technology innovation.

As per the statement, the non-binding MoU is subject to satisfying certain necessary requirements and regulatory approvals, as applicable.
