Qatar explores ways to develop ICT sector at ATICM meeting

Qatar has expressed its keenness to further develop the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector during the 25th session of the Arab Telecommunications and Information Council of Ministers (ATICM), which was held virtually.

The Qatari delegation from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA), and Qatar Postal Service Company (Qatar Post) was headed by His Excellency Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology.

The meeting’s agenda included topics related to the ICT sector and the postal sector. It also evaluated the results of the meetings of specialized Arab technical committees in the ICT and postal fields and the reports and recommendations issued by the Arab working groups specialized in the two areas.

The sessions also reviewed the activities of ATICM observatory bodies such as the International Telecommunication Union Regional Office for the Arab States, the Arab Information and Communication Technology Organization (AICTO), the Arab Regulators Network of Telecommunications and Information Technologies (AREGNET), and the China-Arab States Technology Transfer Center of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (CASTTC-AASTMT).

In addition, the date and place for holding the 50th and 51st sessions of the ATICM Executive Bureau and the 26th session of the ATICM were also decided.

The participation reflects Qatar ICT Ministry’s efforts to enhance cooperation and exchange opinions, experiences in order to unify initiatives and positions in the international meetings as well as to be informed about participation opportunities in related future activities and projects, which contribute to the development of the ICT and Postal sectors in the Arab countries.
