The Qatar National Archive is set to take part in Qatar’s pavilion at Expo Osaka 2025, a flagship event that centers on innovation and knowledge diversity, held in Japan.

Leveraging advanced tools, the Archive will showcase Qatar’s documentary heritage through an interactive digital experience. Visitors can enjoy exploring documents that connect Qatar with other participating nations through an augmented reality journey across the Expo’s global landscape.

Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Buainain, Secretary General of Qatar National Archive, stated that the decision to join Expo Osaka 2025 stems from recognizing the importance of the event as an international platform that showcases institutional progress and Qatar’s efforts in heritage preservation through cutting-edge technologies.

Dr. Al Buainain added that the event provides a wonderful opportunity to enhance shared archival heritage and to foster collaboration with institutions dedicated to memory preservation around the world.

The Secretary General further highlighted that the Archive partnered with Ajyal Educational Center, aimed at choosing some outstanding students as youth ambassadors. These youth ambassadors will join the Archive’s team to increase awareness and support visitors through engaging educational experiences that underscore the importance of documentation in preserving national identity in a contemporary context.

This initiative supports the Archive’s 2025–2030 strategy to nurture young national talent by providing them with real-world experiences that foster awareness, responsibility and values as they represent Qatar on the global stage and develop their capacities in heritage preservation.

Harnessing the power of AI, the Archive also developed an innovative interactive zone to offer visitors a rich visual journey into Qatar’s cultural legacy. Guests can take personalized souvenir photos that are digitally merged with elements drawn from Qatar’s visual memory – traditional architecture, heritage attire and rare manuscripts.

Dr. Al Buainain concluded by expressing hope for launching partnerships that support the Archive’s goals in developing its tools, keeping pace with technological advancements and learning from global best practices in documenting, preserving and providing access to their documentary heritage.
