Saudi Arabia and Indonesia have signed a series of landmark agreements and memoranda of understanding valued at $27 billion, covering key sectors such as clean energy, petrochemicals, and aviation fuel services.
The deals were finalized during the official visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to the Kingdom, marking a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral economic and strategic ties.
According to the press statement, the two sides highlighted that bilateral trade had amounted to approximately $31.5 billion over the past five years, making the Kingdom the top trading partner of the Republic of Indonesia in the region.
They also welcomed the positive outcomes of the negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and Indonesia, which were held in September 2024 and February 2025, and expressed their hope to conclude the agreement in the near future.
In the energy sector, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia agreed to deepen cooperation in the supply of crude oil and its derivatives, petrochemical production, and the development and sustainability of energy supply chains. Both sides also pledged to collaborate on electricity generation, renewable energy initiatives, and the development of energy storage projects.
Furthermore, both sides agreed to cooperate in applying emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, in the energy sector and fostering innovation ecosystems. They also pledged cooperation in carbon circular economy technologies and clean hydrogen development.
In the area of defence and security, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia agreed to strengthen cooperation on matters of mutual interest to contribute to regional and global security and stability. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to joint efforts in combating all forms of crime, terrorism, and extremism, while also enhancing collaboration in cybersecurity, intelligence sharing, and capacity-building through training and exchange of expertise.
As per the reports, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia exchanged views on regional and international issues and reaffirmed their intention to continue coordination and intensify efforts to promote international peace and security.
