Saudi Arabia and France have strengthened cooperation in advanced technologies, with Minister of Communications and Information Technology Abdullah Alswaha leading a series of high-level meetings in Paris.

The meetings were with key research institutions and global firms in artificial intelligence (AI), deep tech, and space. They align with the Kingdom’s strategy to accelerate AI adoption and boost innovation capabilities under Saudi Vision 2030.

Alswaha met with Bruno Sportisse, CEO of Inria, to explore partnerships in AI, robotics, quantum computing, and the development of joint research laboratories. Discussions also included researcher exchange programs and initiatives to enhance scientific competencies.

In a separate meeting, Alswaha and Arthur Mensch, CEO of Mistral AI, reviewed potential cooperation in the development of open-source large language models (LLMs) and deepened ties in the field of generative AI.

Alswaha also met with Marie-Laure Denis, President of France’s data regulator CNIL, to discuss collaboration on data governance and protection, focusing on the responsible regulation of Artificial Intelligence. The talks highlighted Saudi Arabia’s initiatives to support innovative, global regulatory frameworks that ensure the ethical use of emerging technologies.

Furthering the Kingdom’s push to localize high-tech industries, the Saudi delegation held discussions with Thales Group Chairman and CEO Patrice Caine. The discussions centered on developing smart systems and space technologies to support Saudi Arabia’s national digital infrastructure goals.

The engagements underscore Saudi Arabia’s commitment to fostering international partnerships that advance its research ecosystem, develop local talent, and support technology-driven growth in key sectors, in line with its long-term digital transformation goals.
