Saudia and Garuda Indonesia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for a future joint business agreement to expand connectivity between the two airlines and provide passengers with additional travel options.

The agreement builds on the airlines’ existing codeshare partnership and their membership in the SkyTeam alliance. It will enable both carriers to explore single-ticket travel across their networks, connecting Garuda Indonesia’s destinations in Indonesia and Australia with Saudia’s network across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.

The MoU also outlines potential cooperation in network planning and flight schedules between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia, as well as sales, marketing, and distribution in markets of mutual interest.

In addition, the two airlines will explore collaboration on loyalty programs, technology infrastructure, airport services, and travel services for Umrah and Hajj pilgrims traveling between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.

The MoU was signed by Arved von zur Muehlen, Chief Commercial Officer at Saudia, and Neil Raymond Mills, Director of Transformation at Garuda Indonesia, in the presence of HE Engr. Ibrahim Al-Omar, Director General of Saudia Group, and Thomas Sugiarto Oentoro, Vice President Director of Garuda Indonesia.

“This MoU builds on the strong foundation of cooperation between Saudia and Garuda Indonesia and reflects Saudia’s strategic focus on building high-value partnerships that strengthen air connectivity. Through this agreement, we aim to offer guests more flexible travel options between Indonesia, Australia, and Saudia’s network across the Middle East, Europe, and Africa.”

Neil Raymond Mills said that, “The collaboration between Garuda Indonesia and Saudi holds strategic values that not only relate to the expansion of flight networks but also bolster Indonesia’s accessibility to the Middle East, Europe, and Africa as one of the most important travel corridors for the Indonesian people. This region has significant relevance, both for pilgrimage travel, community mobility, business connectivity, and the broader development of economic cooperation.”

The agreement represents the next phase of their partnership and is expected to support stronger air links between Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.
