The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) received a high-level delegation from the state of Florida, USA to discuss ways to increase cooperation and trade, stimulate investment in key sectors, and strengthen UAE-US economic ties.
The US delegation included Mr. Michael Udine, Broward County Mayor, Mr. Dean Trantalis, Mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Mr. Wayne Messam, Mayor of Miramare of Florida, and several private sector representatives in the state.
Chairman of the SCCI, Mr. Abdullah Sultan Al Owais received the delegation, in the presence of Mr. Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al-Awadi, Director-General of SCCI, Mr. Abdulaziz Shattaf, Assistant Director-General for the Communication and Business Sector, and Ms. Fatema Khalifa Al Muqarrab, Director of the International Relations Department, along with various Chamber officials.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Abdullah Al Owais remarked that “By facilitating Emirati and American companies’ access to promising opportunities in the two nations’ marketplaces, the meeting will help strengthen the UAE-US trade and investment partnership.”
The value of merchandise trade between the UAE and the US reached $23.03 billion in 2021, compared to $17.8 billion in 2020.
The SCCI Chairman added that the increased volume of trade reflects the strength of economic, investment, and trade ties between the two countries which is based on a unique model of common interests and mutual benefit between the two parties.
The UAE currently holds the largest share of total Arab investment in the US market, reflecting the amount of mutual investment between friendly countries.
In addition, Mr. Mohammed Al-Awadi underlined Sharjah’s economic landscape, attractive investment achievements and the services provided by the Chamber to companies wishing to invest in the Emirate.
Meanwhile, the American delegation expressed hope that the visit would help strengthen cooperation between the business communities in Florida and the Emirate of Sharjah, emphasizing the importance of continued efforts to strengthen economic ties and potential investment opportunities for Emirati investors in the US state.
