UAE advances airspace restructuring to boost capacity

The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Ministry of Defense, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Airports, have signed an agreement to implement the fourth phase of the UAE’s Airspace Restructuring Project.

The latest phase focuses on upgrading air traffic management systems, increasing air route capacity, and improving coordination among civil, military, and commercial airspace users, while supporting planned expansions at airports and by national carriers. The agreement also establishes the financial, legal, and technical governance framework for the project.

“The fourth phase of the Airspace Restructuring Project represents a pivotal step in enhancing the UAE’s readiness for the future of aviation. It ensures the accommodation of projected growth in air navigation traffic while delivering a flexible, seamless, and future-ready airspace system and infrastructure, maintaining the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency.”

Ahmed Al Jallaf, Assistant Director-General for Air Navigation Services at GCAA, noted that, “This project continues our strategic efforts to develop an integrated national airspace management system aligned with international standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).”

Al Jallaf affirmed that the project will enhance integration across all air operations, aligning with both national and global air navigation plans and strengthening the UAE’s position as a leading global aviation hub.

The initiative will position the country to meet rising air traffic demand, maintaining the highest safety and operational standards.

The Airspace Restructuring Project reflects the UAE’s ongoing commitment to modernizing the aviation sector, introducing innovative systems in airspace management, and reinforcing the nation’s role as a pivotal hub for civil aviation internationally.
