The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has issued a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to Emirates Engineering, indicating progress in the UAE’s aviation regulatory and engineering framework.
The certification makes Emirates Engineering the first UAE-based entity to receive an STC from the national regulator.
The STC is a critical airworthiness approval that authorizes certified modifications to aircraft, systems, and components in compliance with stringent international safety standards.
By granting this certification domestically, the GCAA joins a select group of global aviation authorities capable of exercising this advanced regulatory function.
The development reflects the rapid maturation of the UAE’s aviation engineering ecosystem and highlights the GCAA’s strategic focus on strengthening national competencies.
It also aligns with broader efforts to support local industry participation in high-value aerospace activities while maintaining the highest benchmarks for safety and compliance.
Eng. Aqeel Al Zarooni, Assistant Director-General for Aviation Safety Affairs at the GCAA, stated that, “The issuance of this STC demonstrates the maturity of the UAE’s aviation regulatory framework and the technical capability of our local design organizations. This step enhances efficiency and reinforces the UAE’s position as a regional leader in aviation safety and certification.”
Ahmed Safa Head of Engineering and MRO Emirates
“Securing the first STC from GCAA, following our earlier certification as an Approved Design Organization, is an important milestone for Emirates Engineering, showcasing the strength of our design capabilities and our ability to carry out aircraft modification.”
The STC follows Emirates Engineering’s earlier certification as an Approved Design Organization (ADO), further consolidating its role as a key player in the region’s aerospace engineering landscape.
The milestone builds on the GCAA’s decision in late 2025 to grant Design Organization Approval (DOA) STC privileges to Emirates, another first for a UAE-based entity.
This approval laid the groundwork for the current certification by enabling Emirates Engineering to undertake design and modification approvals under the regulator’s oversight.
The GCAA continues to expand its regulatory oversight and deepen collaboration with industry stakeholders to advance aviation safety, engineering excellence, and innovation.
