UAE explores ways to boost trade & economic ties with Sri Lanka

UAE Minister of State Mr. Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh and Sri Lankan Minister of Public Security Mr. Sarath Weerasekera have discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries in various fields.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Abu Dhabi. During the meeting, the two sides discussed a number of issues of common concern and reviewed means to enhance security, trade, and economic cooperation between the two countries.

Mr. Al Sayegh praised Sri Lanka’s outstanding participation at Expo 2020 Dubai, emphasizing that this global event provides an opportunity to discuss cooperation and build communication bridges.

Further, the UAE Minister welcomed the expected visit of the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mr. Mahinda Rajapaksa to participate in the activities of his country’s National Day ceremony, which will be held at the Expo.

For his part, the Sri Lankan Minister expressed his admiration for Expo 2020 Dubai and congratulated the UAE for its outstanding organization of the global event.

Mr. Weerasekera also lauded the distinguished bilateral relations, expressing his hope to strengthen this cooperation in various fields and continuity of development for the benefit of the two friendly countries.

Earlier this month, Sheikh Maktoum Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Finance, met with President Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka at Expo 2020 Dubai.

During the meeting, Sheikh Maktoum welcomed Mr. Rajapaksa and discussed ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Sri Lanka in various fields including economy, culture, and tourism.
